Profile

Like all Clif Bar products, Luna Bars avoid unhealthy or questionable ingredients - trans fats, refined sugars, hydrogenated oils, hydrogenated oils and artificial sweeteners, colors or preservatives. The main difference is that Luna Bars have been formulated to specifically meet the nutritional needs of women. The Luna Bar project goes beyond nutritional products to include a traveling film fest (LunaFest) featuring short films about women, with proceeds donated to the Breast Cancer Fund and local non-profit women's groups. The company also provides information as well as a community for moms and is involved in efforts to fight breast cancer, including the safe cosmetics campaign, and to end violence against women and girls.

Straight Up Facts

Luna Bars contain fewer calories than Clif Bars and enough calcium to rival an 8-ounce glass of milk. The bar's soy protein is associated with heart health, as is folic acid, which is also an important nutrient for women in their child-bearing years. Other woman-focused nutrients include roughly a third of your daily iron and fiber needs, as well as 100% of a woman's daily requirements for B vitamins and antioxidants A, C and E. Luna's Sunrise breakfast bar has even more fiber, along with vitamin D, whole grains, and Omega 3 fatty acid.

Directions

Eat 1 Luna Bar as a nutritional supplement, or balanced snack. Luna is not a meal replacement or diet bar, but it's a healthier alternative to most processed snack foods, and Luna Sunrise is a portable and nutritional breakfast option.

Straight Up Review

Most people who try Luna Bars like them, and even though they're marketed to women, there's no reason men can't enjoy them too. The majority of reviews report great flavor, with few exceptions. The sweet and tangy flavors, in particular, offer a good balance of sweetness and tartness. Some reviewers are more impressed by the nutritional value than energy boost, but even at that, the odd person has questioned the benefits of rice flour and syrup. As good as they are, Luna Bars are still not a replacement for whole food.
