Odyssey bars are manufactured by Premier Nutrition Inc., a California-based company founded in 1997 by a group of friends frustrated by the nutritional company they were working for. Premier Nutrition Inc. produces a range of protein bars, as well as liquid supplements.
Odyssey bars are marketed as energy boosters and meal supplements that contain 30 grams of protein and only 3 grams of sugar. The bars come in three flavors - Chocolate Coconut Almond, Chocolate Peanut Butter and Caramel Nut. By reading the labels of all three Odyssey bars, you'll realize that 3 grams of sugar is only the average. Two of the bars each contain 7 grams of sugar, while the Chocolate Peanut Butter bar contains only a gram. While sugar content is low, the bars also contain roughly 30 grams of carbohydrates and hydrogenated oils. In April 2006, Hershey's filed a federal lawsuit against Premier Nutrition, citing undeniable similarities between the packaging of their Take5 chocolate bar and Premier's Twisted protein bar. Premier Nutrition settled for an undisclosed amount of money and agreed to change its packaging.
