Supplement Case Studies
Do you ever wonder what supplements actually work? There are so many supplements on the market, many with overzealous claims, that it’s tricky to figure out which ones can help you reach your goals. Sure, some of them may be backed by studies but many of these studies are biased and skewed to favor the companies conducting them.
At Straight up Supplements we decided the best way to determine the effectiveness of some of the most popular supplements on the market was to conduct our own case study. We chose four of the most popular weight loss products and four of the most popular muscle building supplements and conducted an eight-week study to see which ones actually work. Working in conjunction with a local university we were able to professionally measure each of the participants and assess both the before and after measurements.
The muscle building study was conducted on a group of gym goers with varying experience levels at the gym. Many of them hadn’t tried a muscle building product before, so they were able to experience firsthand if these supplements would actually help to increase their size as the label claims. These participants were asked to maintain their current exercise routine and were randomly assigned one of the muscle building supplements.
The weight loss study was conducted on a group of participants who varied in the amount of weight they were looking to lose. Many of the members of this group had tried other methods to lose weight before and wanted to see how a weight loss supplement could aid in their weight loss. This group didn’t change their eating habits or exercise plans. The purpose of the study was to determine how effective a weight loss supplement could be without changing other elements of their lifestyle.
So how did the supplements stack up? Well, the results were somewhat shocking. You might be shocked to find out your favorite supplement doesn’t work quite as well as it claims to.
